Locking files to prevent conflicting versions

Is there any software I can use with Syncplicity so that when one user opens a shared file it is locked for other users. This would be awesome as it would stop the creation of conflicting versions. It may also mean I can use Syncplicity for all my needs and stop using my crappy Citrix environment.

Syncplicity does not currently have a locking solution for concurrent file use scenarios. Our team is exploring approaches to provide information to users of shared files that the file is in use elsewhere; there is no date yet for delivery of that function in the product.
