Image navigation

I have folders containing (mostly) images, and would like to be able to swipe between photos rather than having to open the file, close it, and open the next one. If this could not be automated easily enough, perhaps there could be a folder option that toggles between "photo album/folder" and "traditional". Even if you required that a folder contain strictly image files in order to use this toggle, it would be a huge improvement to the consumer experience (as opposed to the strictly enterprise, productivity-focused user), though I imagine some professionals would benefit as well.
