Search on Android

With the Android search feature, you can find:

  • Files and folders you own
  • Folders you have shared with others
  • Folders others have shared with you if the folder owner has search enabled

You can find the file you want to download or share if you know the file name or a few keywords from the file content. Tap the magnifying glass icon at the top of the screen to begin a search.

This topic describes:

  • How to perform basic and advanced searches
  • The search query syntax
  • Limitations and prerequisites of the search feature

Basic search

  1. Tap Files at the top to access your folders.
  2. Tap the magnifying glass search icon at the top.
  3. Type your search query in the search text box.
  4. If you tapped search while browsing a subfolder, tap the current folder to limit the search to the current folder or all Syncplicity to search all files and folders.
  5. Tap the magnifying glass icon on the keyboard to start the search.
  6. Tap a search result.

Advanced search

You can refine your search query with filters. Tap the filter icon to invoke an advanced search.

The following filters are available.

Filter Default Available options
Type Any type Archives, Audio, Documents, Executables, Folders, Images, PDF, Presentations, Spreadsheets, Video
File size Any size 0-1 MB, 1-10 MB, 10-100 MB, 100 MB-1 GB, 1 GB+
File date Any time Last 24 hours, Last week, Last month, Last 3 months, Last year, Older than last year
Owner Anyone Me

The following are the steps for an advanced search with filters.

  1. Tap the magnifying glass search icon.
  2. Tap the filter icon on the right side of the search field.
  3. Select filters and tap Apply. The selected filters are listed below the search field.

Saved searches

You can save your regularly used search queries for later use. Enter the search keywords, select the filters you want applied and submit your search. Then tap the bookmark icon and select a name for your saved search.

When you access the Search menu next time, a list of saved searches is displayed. Tap on the X next to one of them to delete it, if you don't need it anymore.

The list of saved searches is device-specific and is not available across your other devices.

You are not able to save a search that returns no results.

Search query syntax

Search queries are not case-sensitive. You can use a few characters from the beginning of the word that you are searching for in the file or folder name or in the file content. For example, searching for feed returns the folder Press Release December 2018 Feedback.  In cases where file and folder names contain words separated by special characters (for example, press_release) you can perform a search on part of the word, such as release, and the search result returns the folder press_release and the file PressRelease.pdf.  If you know the exact phrase that you are looking for, use double quotes to filter out other results.

The following table provides examples of the search query syntax.
