Supported Microsoft Office features on Android

Syncplicity for Android allows viewing and editing Microsoft Office documents with either:

  • Microsoft Office applications for Android
  • Syncplicity native editor

This topic describes the Syncplicity native editor's support for MS Office features. It does not cover the MS Office apps. For information about those apps see:

Microsoft Word features

The following are Word features of the Syncplicity native editor.

  • Comment — Add, edit and delete comments.
  • Copy format — Copy the font or paragraph format applied to text and apply it to other text. You also can clear format of text.
  • Find and replace — Find or replace text by searching for a term and tapping the previous or next arrow to search the results one by one. If you select the Replace mode, the Replace box appears.
  • Font — Change font, font size, font color, font effect, background color, and style of the text.
  • Draw — Draw by using your finger and erase what you have drawn. Additionally, you can change tools for drawing lines, line thickness, color, and type of line.
  • Go to Page — Quickly move to any page of your document.
  • Insert — insert a horizontal or vertical text box, table, shape, image, or chart and then adjust the size of the object by dragging the sizing handles. The images can be inserted from the gallery or taken by camera. Also, you can insert a symbol, header, footer, hyperlink, bookmark, footnote, and endnote.
  • Page layout — Change the margins, page orientation, size, number of columns in the document, column width and spacing, and the range of pages for a layout to be applied. You also can specify page background with watermarks, page color, and page borders.
  • Paragraph — Change the alignment, spacing, indent, and bullets and numbering, and text direction, from left to right or from right to left.
  • Read — Listen to reading your text out loud, either the entire document or read from a selected point.
  • Search — Search a selected text in Wikipedia or in the Web.
  • Settings — Set the ruler displayed on the top of your screen, full width view of your document, or turn on the spelling check.
  • Share — Share your text with any of multiple destinations, from mail to Facebook.
  • Track changes — Track changes of your text using various options of the markup display.
  • Undo and redo— Tap the undo and redo arrows to move forward and backward through the document history.
  • Zoom in / out — Zoom in and out of the document with pinch and spread on the screen.

Microsoft Excel features

The following are Excel features of the Syncplicity native editor.

  • Align cells — Change the horizontal and vertical cell alignment.
  • Cell formatting — Change the fill color, border drawing, border, color, and border thickness for a cell.
  • Chart formatting — Change the chart type, layout, format, and style.
  • Comment — Add, edit and delete comments.
  • Conditional formatting — Apply highlighting rules, top-bottom rules, data bars, color scales, and icons for cells, rows, and columns formatting.
  • Copy format — Copy the format of a cell and apply it to other cells.
  • Create a formula — Create a formula by editing a cell or insert a formula by using one of the in-built functions.
  • Draw — Draw by using your finger and erase what you have drawn. Additionally, you can change tools for drawing lines, line thickness, color, and type of line.
  • Edit cell — Edit the data of a cell by tapping the cell twice to input data.
  • Filter — Filter data in a range of cells.
  • Find and replace — Find or replace text by searching for a term and tapping the previous or next arrow to search the results one-by-one. If you select the Replace mode, the Replace box appears.
  • Font — Change text size, color, effect, or font. If you select an option, it is applied to the cell in real time.
  • Freeze panes — Freeze panes to keep an area of a worksheet visible independently of your scrolling. If you select a cell and tap Freeze panes, all the cells to the left and above the selected cell are frozen.
  • Hide rows or columns — Hide rows or columns from the view. To unhide rows or columns, select the adjacent rows or columns and tap the Show hidden rows/columns.
  • Insert — Insert a horizontal text box, table, shape, image, or chart and then adjust the size of the object by dragging the pointers. The images can be inserted from the gallery or taken by camera. Also, you can insert a symbol and hyperlink.
  • Number formatting — Change the formatting option (date, time, percentage, and so on) that you can apply to a cell or cell range. Select a category and then select the formatting option that you want to apply.
  • Select a cell range — Select a cell range by tapping a cell and then holding while dragging on the cell handle.
  • Select a column or row — Select a column or row by tapping the title to select it. You can select multiple columns or rows by tapping a column or row title and holding while dragging to the desired column or row title.
  • Resize a column or row — Resize a column or row by selecting the column and row and then dragging the column or row to the desired height or width.
  • Undo and redo — Tap the undo and rredo arrows to move forward and backward through the document history.
  • Worksheet management — Add, delete, rename, or change the order of worksheets.

Microsoft PowerPoint features

The following are PowerPoint features of the Syncplicity native editor.

  • Add a slide— Add slides by tapping the + icon on the right of the slide ribbon.
  • Comment — Add, edit and delete comments.
  • Copy Format — Copy the font or paragraph format that is applied to text and apply it to other text. You also can clear format of text.
  • Draw — Draw by using your finger and erase what you have drawn. Additionally, you can change tools for drawing lines, line thickness, color, and type of line.
  • Find and replace — Find or replace text by searching for a term and tapping the previous or next arrow to search the results one-by-one. If you select the Replace mode, the Replace box appears.
  • Font — Change font, font size, font color, font effect, background color, and style of the text.
  • Go to slide — Navigate to any slide in your slideshow by entering the slide number.
  • Insert — Insert a horizontal or vertical text box, table, shape, image, or chart and then adjust the size of the object by dragging the pointers. Also, you can insert images from the gallery, or take an image using the camera, insert online video, or record video using the camera. When adding a shape, you can also add animation from three categories with specified timing: on screen tap, or previous/following effect.
  • Paragraph — Change the alignment, spacing, indent, and bullets and numbering, and text direction, from left to right or from right to left.
  • Settings — Set to show comments, smart guideline, motion path, and turn on the spelling check.
  • Slide Note — Manage slide notes which are displayed at the bottom of the slides. If you move a slide, the note that corresponds to the selected slide is displayed. You can modify the notes by tapping them.
  • Slide master — Create slide titles and change their style.
  • Slideshow — Start a slideshow by tapping the play icon in the slides panel.
  • Transitions — Select screen transition for your slideshow from three categories: Subtle, Splendid, and Dynamic. The transitions can be applied on screen tap or after time interval specified.
  • Undo and redo — Tap the undo and redo arrows to move forward and backward through the document history.
  • View mode — Toggle to view mode to preserve your document from accidental change, and then return to Edit mode.
