Syncplicity Rights Management

Syncplicity Rights Management is the Syncplicity feature that provides capabilities for information rights management (IRM), a security technology for protecting documents with sensitive information from unauthorized access. Syncplicity Rights Management protects files from unauthorized copying, viewing, printing, forwarding, deleting and editing.

For Syncplicity Enterprise Edition users, Syncplicity Rights Management extends the capabilities of Syncplicity Secure Shared Links by offering enhanced protection for Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and PDF documents. The protection remains in place even after they leave the enterprise network, regardless of where the documents reside.

Recipients of IRM-protected files receive a protected copy of the file. Access to the file is restricted to the intended recipients only, and the actions that can be performed on the document are controlled by the sender and the organization's policies. The Syncplicity Rights Management feature protects the file so it remains protected even after it is downloaded, copied, or emailed to other people.

Depending on the permissions defined by the file Protector for the IRM protected document, a recipient of a shared link can view/edit the protected document online or download a protected version locally.

Supported platforms

The Syncplicity Rights Management feature is available only for the Enterprise Edition and supports the following platforms:

• Windows desktop: If View Online is selected in the landing page, you can view the file in the web browser.  If Download is selected, you can download files to view and, with permission, edit the file. To do this, select the download plugin link to download the Syncplicity FileSecure plugin for Windows. Syncplicity Rights Management Protectors can IRM-protect files directly from the Syncplicity Desktop agent fro Windows.
• Mac desktop: If View Online is selected in the landing page, you can view the file in the web browser. If Download is selected, you can download files to view and, with permission, edit the file. To do this, select the download plugin link to download the Syncplicity FileSecure plugin for Mac. Syncplicity Rights Management Protectors can IRM-protect files directly from the Syncplicity Desktop agent for Mac.
• iPad: You can view IRM-protected files online using the web browser (see Web).  Currently, downloading IRM-protected files is not recommended. IRM-Protected files may be sent from the the web browser on the iPad.  Sending an IRM-protected link from the iPad Syncplicity client is not supported.
• Android: You can view IRM-protected files online using the Android web browser (see Web). Currently, downloading IRM-protected files is not recommended. IRM-Protected files may be sent from the the web browser on the Android.  Sending an IRM-protected link from the Android Syncplicity client is not supported.
• Web: You can view files in the browser using the My Syncplicity shared link download page, only if this feature is enabled by the administrator. If allowed, a View button is displayed on the web page next to Download.
